The Roma and... – Diverse Identities

Project details

A Roma and... - Diverse Identities

The initiative
explores and presents the diversity of Roma communities in the V4 region (Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia) through innovative theatre and drama education methods. Its aim is to challenge stereotypes, highlight intersectionality (the intersections of different gender, linguistic, and social identities), demonstrate the value of diversity, and empower minority communities.

We will begin our work with international artistic research, conducting both group and individual interviews and analysing existing materials. Based on the material collected, we will develop a play and a related non-formal educational methodology through an international dramaturgy workshop. The play will then be staged and presented in Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland, accompanied by reflective workshops.
Our work places an emphasis on agency and active citizenship, moving beyond stereotypical or victim-oriented representations of Roma communities. During the project, we will present 6 theatre performances and accompanying workshops, reaching several hundred citizens across the region.

The project is co-financed by the governments of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia through the Visegrad Fund; the mission of the International Visegrad Fund is to promote ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
