The Independent Theatre Hungary team is preparing a new show for the spring! On 21 March, System Destroyers
How can a young person from a Roma village become successful? How far can an artist go before the authorities silence him? What would you do if the state interfered in your work and private life? How can a filmmaker become truly successful in an age of socialism with its watchful eyes? The System Destroyers is not subtle: it is a story about oppression, freedom and those who refuse to become losers in a dictatorship.
Alexander wants to be a free filmmaker, but the Eastern European dictatorship he lives under has other plans for him. The state dictates his professional work, his social life and even invades his bedroom. Ilona and Peter want to start a minority movement that on paper does not exist
Attention! The System Destroyers lecture will give you a hint of historical knowledge. Rest assured, this story will not be in the textbooks either. But it is necessary in order to face our common past and present and perhaps move on. The people and events in the presentation are fictional, but many of the stories presented are real. The production was inspired by real people whose struggles deserve respect.
You probably have had a dream that you were being chased.
You run in vain, but your pursuer is getting closer and closer. (…)
Then I realized: I’m chasing myself in my dreams.
MI was the Monster. What would you rather be? The monster or the scared one?
The performance deals openly with sexuality. Viewing it is not recommended for those under the age of 18 according to Hungarian law.
Thanks to ERIAC for supporting the play and the production.
